Getting to the Danube

Sunday, October 18

Not one of the best flights “across the pond” we’ve ever had. Delta put us in an old plane with only an overhead TV. Showed two movies I had already seen and served the worst food we’ve ever had on an airplane and wine that came out of box. But we made it to Paris, and that’s a good thing.

Monday, October 19

Sitting in the airport in Paris and not getting to see Paris??? We could only sit and dream about walking along the Seine or sitting in a little sidewalk café on the Champs Elysee and sipping a good wine (or, in Augie’s dream, eating a French pastry).

Three hours later and we’re off on the next three hour leg to Bucharest. Vanguard’s people picked us up and drove us to the Intercontinental Hotel, where we had dinner and an orientation with the rest of our cruisers. The view from our 18th floor room was spectacular. We looked down the main street in the city, which was lit up light Times Square and was flooded with traffic all night. Not much like the bleak, gray post Communist city that Mary Ann had described.
